Delphi XE facilitates easy deployment on Windows, helps Daintel internationalise application
Maidenhead, United Kingdom – 13 June, 2012— Embarcadero® Technologies, a leading provider of software solutions for application and database development, today announced that Denmark-based Daintel, a software solutions provider for the healthcare industry, has developed Critical Information Systems (CIS), a state-of-the-art and award winning IT solution for managing hospital intensive care units. Built on Embarcadero Delphi® XE, a rapid visual development environment, Daintel’s CIS has won the first prize in the 2012 European Union SME eHealth Competition, beating 97 eligible European SMEs who participated in the contest.
Delphi XE makes it easy to build rich business applications utilising visual tools, component frameworks, database and services connectivity and high performance native compilers.
“When we started developing CIS eight years ago, we evaluated numerous software development technologies, in the context of the kind of application we needed to create for hospital environments,” explains Lars Dybdahl, Chief Technology Officer, Daintel. “We were looking to create a ‘fat’ client application to meet the unique needs of hospitals and deliver the best user experience. Delphi XE proved to be the best tool for this project; and it is easy to deploy on Microsoft Windows, which is ubiquitous in the healthcare sector. In fact, the latest version of Delphi XE is perhaps one of the most robust platforms yet that is available on the market. Given Embarcadero’s emphasis on continuous product development, we are assured that CIS has been built on future-proof technology.”
Since the solution’s launch, in just 18 months, CIS has gained a 50 per cent market share in Denmark. The application helps hospitals manage Intensive Care Units, reduce treatment costs by up to 30 per cent while ensuring patient safety, and enables professionals to analyse related clinical data obtained from a variety of devices such as patient monitors, mechanical ventilators, dialysis machines and infusion pumps.
“Delphi continues to be one of the most preferred languages for application development, especially in the modern high-tech and medical equipment fields,” adds Nigel Brown, Vice President and General Manager, Embarcadero International, responsible for Europe Middle East and Africa and Asia Pacific. “CIS is an excellent example of how Delphi XE can assist innovative developers in building robust applications that can manage large databases without relying on server connectivity or compromising on performance or user experience. We are delighted for Daintel.”
Following its phenomenal success in Denmark, Daintel is now expanding the availability of CIS to other European markets. Delphi XE makes it painless to internationalise software applications through the GNU Gettext functionality offered by the solution. For instance, CIS incorporates multiple languages, making it easy for medical doctors to register patient records in different vernaculars. To illustrate, a Swiss doctor proficient in German and French languages in the state of Canton, Switzerland, can register patient information in both languages.
The latest version of Delphi XE is Delphi® XE2 includes FireMonkey™, the first native CPU and GPU powered platform for rich business applications. Delphi XE2 offers the fastest way to deliver ultra-rich and visually stunning native applications for Windows, Mac and iOS – including 64-bit Windows applications. Dramatically reducing coding time and building applications 5x faster, Delphi XE2 provides component-based visual development and a fully visual two-way Rapid Application Development Integrated Development Environment (RAD IDE) with high performance access to popular databases.
