FrameForge Previz Studio Wins Embarcadero Cool App Contest for June
Emmy® Award-winning “Virtual Studio” Powered by Delphi Enables Filmmakers to Transform the Storyboarding Process
Austin, Texas – June 23, 2016 - Embarcadero Technologies (recently acquired by IDERA), a leading provider of software solutions for application development, today announced that FrameForge® Previz Studio has won its Cool App contest for June. FrameForge is the Emmy® Award-winning storyboard software that allows its users to create storyboards in an optically accurate Virtual Film Studio where they can explore shots, and identify and avoid potential production problems, saving them time, lowering production costs and enhancing creativity.
“Without Delphi, I’m not sure FrameForge would have ever existed. Just as our program gives filmmakers the tools to explore and experiment and find the very best shots, Delphi’s ease-of-use, power and speed gives me the same freedom as a developer”
Embarcadero’s Cool App contest is open to any business or consumer application built with RAD Studio, Delphi or C++Builder. Qualifying apps can use VCL, FireMonkey, DataSnap, EMS, FireDAC, InterBase and any other components, libraries, services, sites, infrastructures, APIs or devices. Embarcadero awards Cool App contest winners a $2,000 voucher for use toward the purchase of Embarcadero products. Winning submissions are also highlighted on the company’s YouTube channel.
“FrameForge is really impressive. I liked a lot of other apps in the contest, but FrameForge Previz Studio seems to be a top application in its market. It is a good example of the flexibility of Delphi. If someone can do this using Delphi, then anything can be done using Delphi,” said Luis Navarro, Embarcadero MVP and Cool App award judge.
Storyboards for film, television and commercial production have been a standard tool since the 1940s, but little had been done to improve their value to directors, cinematographers and VFX supervisors—until the creation of FrameForge Previz Studio.
Conventional hand-drawn or clip art-generated storyboards use forced perspective—what someone imagines the camera will see in a given set or location. By contrast, FrameForge is a Virtual Film Studio that uses optically-accurate virtual cameras to bring a set or location to life, showing the user exactly what their real camera will see. This gives filmmakers the ability to identify and solve potential problems with planned shots, while gaining unprecedented flexibility and power to experiment with and explore the location. This makes the pre-production process far more efficient and valuable, dramatically streamlining shoots, improving communications and producing higher quality projects.
“Without Delphi, I’m not sure FrameForge would have ever existed. Just as our program gives filmmakers the tools to explore and experiment and find the very best shots, Delphi’s ease-of-use, power and speed gives me the same freedom as a developer,” said Ken Schafer, president and lead program architect at Innoventive Software, LLC. “It’s so fast for me to mock things up and try them out, that if I feel a design isn’t just right, I can rip it down to the studs and replace it with something better. With Delphi, I know I can always do my best work -- which means that all of our users can do theirs as well.”
